The board and the secretariat of the Habitat Platform are advised by the Habitat Council. This Council consists of representatives from a large number of public and private bodies in the Netherlands which as umbrella organisations have a broad support base, or have specific expertise in the habitat sphere. They include providers and producers in the areas of construction, administration, consumer affairs, research, education, cultural matters and the media, and international cooperation. The Council also has several members appointed as individuals, who have a very close involvement in the habitat field. The Ministries of Foreign Affairs and of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment, responsible for setting up the Habitat Platform, act as observers.

The members of the Habitat Council and the organisations they represent form the support base for the implementation of the Habitat Agenda. They advise on the drafting of the Platform’s annual work plan. They are moreover important partners in the implementation of the Agenda. The members of the Habitat Council and the organisations and the people they represent are involved in many of the Platform’s activities.
